Vellano - Il Traspo

Il Traspo is an old farmhouse, that has been totally renovated in old Tuscan style with chestnut-beamed ceilings some years ago. It is divided into three apartments of which two on the ground floor are being rented. The house has on the upper hill a medium-sized swimming pool (incl. garden furniture) with a splendid view into the green valley.

Mono-locale (1 - 2 sleeps)

This mini-apartement has an open kitchen with dinnertable and chairs, a double bed and adjacent a small bathroom with shower, hand-basin and wc. Through the two French windows you come into the garden with garden furniture. It is a small basic and moderately priced apartment, however, on an excellent and beautiful spot, for people that are less exigent in luxury. In the low season it is possible to rent it for less than a week.

Piccolo (2 - 4 sleeps)

This apartment, also on the ground floor, is situated on the frontside of the house. It has a large sitting-/dining room with an open kitchen. Here you will find a comfortable couch which converts into a double bed. Adjacent to the sitting-/dining room there is a spacious bedroom with a double bed, and a bathroom. In front of the house there is a cosy terrace with garden furniture.

About the surroundings

The nearest village (1 km) is Vellano (500 mt alt.), pinned like a painting on top of the mountain. It offers a bar, a bakery, a pizzeria and a post-office. Vellano is part of the ten early medieval villages known as the 'Castella' which are situated along the valleys of the Torbola and Forfora. Recently, in order to conserve its historical character, the whole region was designated protected area and therefore no new building construction is allowed. The landscape is outstandingly beautiful, with hills and mountains densely wooded with chestnut and pine, olive groves and fruit trees. As well as asphalt roads, all these villages are connected by footpaths for walking holidays and have all been clearly charted by the 'Valleriana Trekking'. The height of this mountain landscape varies from 100 m to the Battifolle at 1106 m and is known as the 'Valdinievole'in the province of Pistoia and in the heart of Tuscany. Down in the valley (6 km) is Pescia. There is a ski-resort in Abetone (60km) and there are beach-resorts at Viareggio and Lido di Camaiore (40km). Nearer at hand is the walled city of Lucca and the thermal bath/spa centre Montecatini Terme, which also offers an 18-hole golf course. Within easy reach, too, there are several swimming pools, tennis courts, pony trekking and many excellent and inexpensive restaurants specialising in regional dishes and good wines.

How to get there

Vellano is at a distance of 15 min. from Pescia. Travelling time by car or train from Pescia to Florence or Pisa is plm. 1 hour. Both cities have an international airport and possibilities of carrental.
